New year, new page, new bird?....

There have been upto three bluetits in the garden since we were last here. We don't know if this is one of the same birds from last year. However, whoever it is, they are still interested in pecking at the inside of the box!

17/02/10	The first footage of 2010! Good colour with the new LEDs, but no sound yet! (Click the bluetit to watch)
19/02/10	It was all going so well! Not sure what the little swaying dance is about.
	And then this happens! New camera on the way!
28/02/10	New camera up and running! Can't say there's much to report from the box though! Still waiting for the second bird to make an appearance.
08/03/10	Hello, several people have asked for an update! We haven't been shirking our responsibilities, honest! There's just been nothing to report as you will see!
28/03/10	Well, it was at the start of the month that we last had an update. We were beginning to think that nothing was going to happen this year! There had been a bit of nesting material going in, but it just appeared to be for Mr B. to spruce up his bachelor pad as we hadn't even seen a second bird in the garden, yet alone entering the box! Anyway, things always happen when you are away for the weekend! So, fingers crossed that this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship!

05/04/10	Intruder Alert! The cheeky thing even pokes its beak in!
05/04/10	That's a good soft piece of moss for the nest!

07/04/10	Another intruder to see off!
10/04/10	It's beginning to look more comfortable in here. It would be more reassuring to see the other bird in the box, or even in the garden!
11/04/10	Now that looks more like a nest! But where is the other bird?
13/04/10	Ta Da! But not just once....
	Not twice!
	But three times!
14/04/10	Not sure where all the feathers are coming from! Thankfully it isn't from either of the bluetits!
15/04/10	More feathers! A sparrowhawk has been busy in the neighbourhood, which might explain where they are all coming from!
21/04/10	Good news! That looks like one egg!
22/04/10	Two today!
23/04/10	Now there are three eggs! They are being kept very well covered for most of the day.
25/04/10	Five today!
27/04/10	There are without a doubt six eggs in the nest!
28/04/10	The not so secret seven!
29/04/10	The male bird is looking after his mate well!
	Even when she's not there!
	A sunny patch in between the down pours in which to see the eggs!
30/04/10	It's always a good idea to have a stretch before you leave. (9 eggs by the way!)
01/05/10	How many?! One, two miss a few, yes they're still there. I'm off to join the party!
02/05/10	No, you won't find any chicks yet. But 10 is a good round number to stop on.
03/05/10	Now it's just lots of sitting and waiting and being well looked after. We will post again when the chicks start hatching (unless anything exciting happens). In the meantime, keep watching the camera page.
06/05/10	Whilst we are waiting for the eggs to hatch! We had a visitor in the garden today. Have a look at the following pictures, a woodpecker!

12/05/10	A clip from much later, way past their bedtime! It's not as clear but you can definitely see 7 little mouths.
13/05/10	We thought you might like to see just how tiddly they are at this stage.
13/05/10	At the moment there are 3 eggs left unhatched. However, it's incredibly difficult to count 7 little chicks.
14/05/10	Count them quickly! It looks like 8 chicks today.
14/05/10	Is mum saying, "No dear, that's far to big! But maybe it's time for a little something myself!"?
15/05/10	Is that an egg shell from yesterday? Or are we up to 9?

17/05/10	Oh dear, why do we always seem to get a day like today!? It was a very cold night and a lot of the chicks don't seem to have made it through. Thankfully, mum has done a really good job of keeping the nest tidy.
20/05/10	Well, this has to be the most disappointing year so far. We went from this on the 18th

	And finally, this on the 20th!
21/05/10	A glimmer of hope? We don't want to get anyone's hopes up. But is there time to try again?
27/05/10	No news I'm afraid The birds are still visiting the box, but less frequently now. If anything happens we will post an update, but I'm afraid to say that I think that's it for this year.
