Two bluetits already!....
(Check the Home page to see when this was last updated,
the pink writing!)

There has only been one bluetit in the garden for some weeks now. However, since the snow, he seems to have found a partner. One of the birds is roosting overnight also.

The first footage of 2009! (Click the bluetit to watch)

03/02/09

Again two birds in the box!
The colour seems to be working reasonably well. There won't be any further improvements to it now that the birds are investigating the box!

17/02/09

Sorry for the delay.
There's not been much more happening! One bird is still roosting overnight and then cleaning up in the morning. Then the two birds visit the box during the day. No nesting activity yet though!

18/03/09

An even longer delay (a whole month)!
But honestly, nothing more has happened until yesterday! There was a week or so when only one bird was visiting. Now they are both back and bringing in nesting material! Hurrah!

A bit early to start fluffing up the nesting material though!

22/03/09

Vandal! Well, we'll be one LED down for the rest of the season!

24/03/09

We had to remove the broken LED and so were a bit anxious as to whether or not the birds would return to the box.
Happily, they were both back in today.
You can see there is some more bedding also.

31/03/09

Getting there slowly!
There's a bit more material in here now, as you can see.

01/04/09

Oh no! Who is this?!
Lets hope she isn't taking up residence like the spider last year!

02/04/09

That's more like it.
It's starting to look a bit more comfortable with a definite hollow for the eggs!

14/04/09

What is he up to?
It's a bit early for that!
Probably a nice treat for his mate.

Nearly ready.
Just a few more feathers to make it a bit more comfortable.

19/04/09

Could that be an egg in the middle of the hollow?
It's difficult to tell as she has been keeping it well covered all day. If you watch, you can see her kicking nesting material over it before she leaves. Now, she wouldn't bother doing that if there wasn't something to hide!

20/04/09

Two eggs today!
Wait until the feather moves for a better view!

23/04/09

Things went a bit quiet for the last couple of days. It has been cooler and they've obviously kept the eggs well covered as nothing has been visible. However, take a look at today!

26/04/09

The eggs have been well covered again for the last few days. However, you will see that there are more eggs today! Unfortunately, now that the sycamore is in leaf we are beginning to miss the extra LED for light in the box.

28/04/09

We had a bit of trouble with the website over the weekend, but everything is back up and running now.
A good job too as there are now 10 eggs!
Mum has been sitting on them most of the day with Dad back and fore with food.

02/05/09

Mum looking after the eggs.
Dad looking after Mum.

09/05/09

One little chick!
Mum taking out the egg shell.

Two little chicks!
More egg shell.

Three little chicks!
Come on Dad, get some food!

11/05/09

All hatched!
Impossible to do a head count, but all the eggs have gone!

12/05/09

Mum and Dad have been very busy all day!

13/05/09

Still too busy to do a head count!

14/05/09

Very busy, but very healthy looking chicks, so far!
There are at least 8.

16/05/09

It could be eight, all looking well.
Or possibly nine.

17/05/09

The weather has taken a turn for the worse.
The chicks are keeping close together.

18/05/09

It must be cold, the chicks have started burrowing into the side of the hollow.

19/05/09

Not much movement in the nest today.
Mum has spent a lot more time sitting on the chicks to keep them warm.

26/05/09

We had a little interlude whilst Mum and Dad tidied up the nest!
The cold weather got the better of some of the chicks. However, the last four look and sound very healthy!

That's a good bit of wing stretching!
They look a lot bigger and are beginning to leave the hollow.

28/05/09

Two of the chicks are being a bit more adventurous and leaving the hollow.
But they are sitting on the other two!

29/05/09

Now they are all out of the hollow.
There's some good wing stretching going on.

30/05/09

Are we nearly ready to go?!

31/05/09

Now we are ready to go!
Out goes 1.

Then no.2!

Here goes the third!

One out, all out!
Bye.

09/06/09

Final update of 2009!
Take a look at the following pictures to see who visited the garden today!

I think we can call this a reasonably successful year!
Thanks for watching.
See you next year.
