Comments: How lovely that Helen from Smethwick has found our site and keeps us posted as to how things are going with her birds. It's great to share an interest with others in this way. -Hi Chrys, Yes it is! It's a shame it has been such a bad year.

Comments: Oh no! How terribly sad. I hope they get to have another go. Weather like this could make a huge dent in all the smaller bird numbers - I'm sure it's not just your bluetits. -Hello Amfi, We are still hoping they will try again.

Comments: Hi, it's me again! I was so disappointed when I just looked at your site and saw all the babies have gone. It brought tears to my eyes. The weather is really nice here but still not much live food going in but all four babies seem ok at present and are getting out of the cup. I found a baby magpie yesterday and brought him home. I fed him some suet pellets and some live mealworms but his head kept turning upsidedown. So i phoned a wildlife sanctuary in Nuneaton last night and have taken him there today. They think it may just be a deformity and are getting a vet to check him this afternoon. They said if it is just a deformity that he can live out the rest of his life at the sanctuary so hopefully it will be a happy ending. I will let you know. Well good luck with the birds..hopefully they will try again and it will be more successful. I'll let you know how my blue tits do. -Hello Helen, It sounds like the magpie will be okay.

Comments: Hi again. You are right, Smethwick is near Birmingham. I just wanted to let you know what was happening in our box. We had a chick die last week and another the next day. On Monday we had 8 chicks all looking well, but then when I got up yesterday there were only 6. Another died yesterday morning and another last night. I watched the mother struggle with its body this morning. Very sad. I'm finding it quite depressing really as I am a massive animal lover. There are still 4 chicks at the moment but mom and dad are away for up to 15 minutes at a time and seem to be bringing alot of suet and fat from the bird feeder into the nest. I've put out live mealworms but the starlings eat most of them and the blue tits don't seem to be interested in them anyway. I've even climbed up a ladder and pushed them throught the hole but when mom and dad came back they removed them. She did come back with one of them but that was it. I just wondered if you were experiencing the same problems food wise or are they managing to feed the chicks plenty? I don't have a link to the net, I just watch it on my tele. It's the first year I've had a box. I found your site just from doing a search through Yahoo and saved it to my favourites. Your site is great and gives me something to compare to. Hope your chicks are doing well. -Hello again Helen, We've had terrible trouble too. I don't think it's the food as there seemed to be plenty going in. I think they were just thrown by the very warm April and then May has been too cold. We are hoping they might try again.

Comments: Oh dear! What a shame. I'm so disappointed and sad There were three babies left when I last counted, lets hope they will survive. I'm crossing my fingers the weather stays dry and warm to enable them to get stronger. -Hi Chrys, Me too!

Comments: Hooray! My teacher has FINALLY put the website on the Portal. I have a question for you. Why when commenting do you have to enter what the "scrambled digits" are, anyway I hope the last birds/bird hatches! -Good news Tom! The scrambled letters mean that people can only enter one comment at a time.

Comments: They are really small! How long does it take before the chicks are fully grown? -Hi Jessie, If you take a look at the previous year's footage, it's nearly 3 weeks after the last one hatches that they leave the box. They are dependent on their parents for some time after that though.

Comments: Hi everyone. It's great that we all have something in common - bird watching! Do you think those baby birds look a bit like aliens? I check the website a couple of times a day as I'm absolutely mesmerised. -Hello Chrys, Yes they do look fairly scrawny at this stage, but the feathers will soon be coming.

Comments: Hooray! We don't have to wait any longer as the eggs have hatched. Those little mouths wide open look so sweet. Did I see the parent bird taking a piece of egg shell out of the nest? Obviously very houseproud in that house. I look forward to seeing the chicks grow now. Let's hope they all survive. -Hi Chrys, Yes it was egg shell, we were hoping to find some below the nest, but they must have taken the pieces further afield.

I spotted a blackbird and a pair of bluetits when I was there the other day!

Comments: Made a mistake with my dates. It was Monday 26th May 2010 that she laid the tenth egg and started incubating. She laid the first egg Friday 17th April. -Hello Again Helen. You are right about the incubation period. I just used the dates off the last few years from this box! How did you come to find our site?!

Comments: Hi, I also have blue tits in my nestbox with a camera. She started incubating Monday 19th May and we have 10 eggs too. Today is the 13th day of incubation so they should be hatching soon. I read that it was 13-15 days for incubation but know weather conditions make a difference as we have racing pigeons. Can't wait for the eggs to hatch. I find your site great as it gives people the chance to compare what is happening in other peoples boxes and also gives people without boxes the chance to see what happens. Hopefully it will inspire more people to give a helping hand to nature. -Hello Helen. Now if there was a prize for the post from furthest away from Wick, you'd win it! Do you have your own website we could have a link for?

Comments: Hi everyone, it seems as if we are all anxiously waiting for the eggs to hatch. Approximately how long does it take for the eggs to hatch? -Hello Chrys. Comments: I've just tuned in again and was delighted to see one bird in the box and another who just popped in for a second. I notice the nest building material is now edging all the sides of the box. Do both birds help make the nest? -Hello Chrys. Yes, finally a fleeting glance of two birds in the box. They've still a fair way to go before you could call it a finished nest though!

Comments: I have been waiting for Spring to see the blue tits again. The colour is so much better this year. The children at playgroup are learning a lot about birds at the moment and being able to observe them in the birdhouse is going to be very exciting for them. They will be learning how the parent birds care for their young until they are ready to fledge. -Hello Chrys. We are still waiting for the other bluetit to make an appearance or there will be no eggs at all!

Comments: I am delighted that everything is sorted again. The colour this year is superb and I'm looking forward to seeing how things progress. One of our topics at the moment is linked to birds and the children are proving very knowledgeable. There is no doubt that having the opportunity to view birds in this way is going to enhance their interest and knowledge. Many, many thanks and keep the good work up. -Cheers Chrys, we do seem to have been beset by problems this year.

the second 6 on about the 9th May.
It's been cold this month, maybe
they've hung on a bit for warmer
